How to Install PrestaShop for Your Online Store

PrestaShop is a free, feature-rich ecommerce platform built specifically for running online shops — products, carts, payments and shipping all handled out of the box. If you want a dedicated store rather than bolting a shop onto a general CMS, PrestaShop is a strong choice, and Softaculous installs it in a few clicks.

Before you start

An online store handles customer data and payments, so install an SSL certificate first. Shoppers need to see the padlock before they will trust you with card details.

Step 1: Launch the installer

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Softaculous.
  2. Search for PrestaShop and click Install.

Step 2: Configure the install

  • Protocol — choose https://.
  • Domain and directory — install at the root (leave the directory blank) for a store that is your website.
  • Store name and admin account — set these, using a strong, unique admin password.

Click Install and wait for it to finish.

Step 3: First steps after install

  1. Log in to the admin dashboard (Softaculous gives you the link).
  2. Set your currency, country and tax settings.
  3. Add your payment methods and a shipping option.
  4. Add your first products and a clean theme.

Keeping a store fast and safe

Stores are heavier than brochure sites, so performance matters. Enable caching and optimise your product images, and keep an eye on resource usage as traffic grows. If the store outgrows shared hosting, our guide on upgrading your plan covers the move.

Frequently asked questions

Is PrestaShop better than WooCommerce?

PrestaShop is a dedicated store platform; WooCommerce adds a shop to WordPress. If you want ecommerce first and foremost, PrestaShop is purpose-built. If you also want blogging and a big plugin ecosystem, WooCommerce may suit you better.

Do I need a lot of resources to run it?

A small store runs comfortably on shared hosting. As your catalogue and traffic grow, you may need more — watch your resource graphs and scale when needed.

How do I take payments in Bangladesh?

PrestaShop supports many payment modules. For local options, you can add a gateway module that fits your market; open a support ticket if you need a hand choosing one.
