How to Point a Domain to VernalWeb Using A Records (Without Changing Nameservers)

There are two ways to connect a domain to your hosting. The usual route is to change your nameservers to ours. But sometimes you want to keep DNS exactly where it is — perhaps at Cloudflare or your registrar — and only send the website traffic to VernalWeb. For that, you point an A record at your server's IP address and leave everything else untouched.

When to use this method

• Your DNS is managed at Cloudflare and you want to keep that.
• Your email lives elsewhere (say Google Workspace) and you do not want to disturb its MX records.
• You are testing before a full move.

Step 1: Find your server's IP address

You will need the IP of your hosting account. Find it in your cPanel — look at the Server Information or General Information panel for Shared IP Address. If you cannot spot it, our support team will give it to you.

Step 2: Edit the A record where your DNS lives

Log in to whoever manages your DNS (Cloudflare, your registrar, etc.) and edit the A records:

1. Set the @ (root) record's A value to your server IP.
2. Set the www record — either an A record to the same IP, or a CNAME pointing to your root domain.
3. Save.

Leave your MX records alone if your email stays elsewhere. That is the whole point of doing it this way.

Step 3: Wait and check

Give it time to propagate, then visit your domain. It should now load your VernalWeb-hosted site while your DNS and email continue living where they were.

Frequently asked questions

A records or nameservers — which is better?

Nameservers are simpler because we manage all your DNS for you. A records give you more control when you need DNS to stay at another provider. Neither is "better"; it depends on your setup.

Will my email break?

Not if you leave the MX records as they are. Only change the A records for the website. If you later move email to us too, you would then update the MX records — see migrating your email.

Can I use Cloudflare in front of my VernalWeb site?

Yes, and many people do. Point Cloudflare's A record at your server IP and enable the proxy. Our Cloudflare guide covers a related setup.
