In this article, we will explain the difference between POP3 and IMAP so that you don’t have any confusion regarding POP3 & IMAP.
IMAP (Internet Messaged Access Protocol) always syncs instantly with mail server. That’s why if you make any change in your email client (Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird) will instantly appear on your webmail inbox.
On the other hand, in POP3 (Post Office Protocol), your mail client account and mail server are not synced. So any change you make to your email account in the mail client will not appear in the webmail inbox.
For example, with IMAP if you delete any email from your mail client inbox, it is also deleted automatically from your webmail inbox. But if you use, POP3 removing an email from mail client inbox doesn’t remove it from the webmail, because the mails are downloaded to your PC and the changes won’t reflect on the server.
